Erkin Alakbarli graduated with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in monumental painting at Azerbaijan Fine Arts Academy. He has been working on and is known for the medium of painting. His involvement in the local art scene started in 2009. Since then, he has been part of numerous festivals, art competitions, fairs, and projects. He has been involved in a residency program at Yarat Studios. Alakbarli was awarded 1st place in the “Futurismo ORA” exhibition and 2nd place in “ARTWEEK” International Art Competition held in Moscow, Russia. Elkin Alakbarli’s work has been exhibited locally and abroad, in Moscow, Novosibirsk, and Berlin.
Several different artistic styles, themes, and colors are typical to the artist’s work since he continuously experiments with materials and techniques. The artist sees art as a way of exploration, expression, and declaration of the truth. He both uses dark and muted color palettes, and brighter and more lively tones depending on the central feelings of the painting. Erkin usually paints portraits leaving an obscure feeling on the viewer, nudes with gloomy tones, abstract paintings, and still life. He is solely drawn by human stories including personal experiences when creating his art and describes it with the following words:
“Most of all I am inspired by dramatic stories from people's lives. Stories that I myself experienced or could feel and thereby show in paintings. My work is focused on feelings and emotions.”
Besides translating the feelings and emotions that he experiences, Erkin expresses his opinions and views on both global and personal events through his diverse body of work.
