Currently living and working in London, artist and philosopher Zeigam Azizov was born and raised in Azerbaijan, USSR. He started his art practice abroad and worked in various mediums such as photography, installation, video, text, and a mixture of both. Azizov utilizes art and philosophy as a tool to enhance and realize one another by producing artworks based on philosophical ideas and analyses and using art to expand the philosophy he explores in his practice. His artistic and intellectual work has been internationally acclaimed and celebrated. His work has been shown in the United Kingdom, Scotland, Austria, the United Arab Emirates, Italy, Denmark, Georgia, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Japan, Germany, India, Turkey, France, and Slovenia, as well as Biennales and Pavilions. Azizov’s works also contribute to the local art scene of Azerbaijan since they are frequently exhibited in art hubs. Zeigam Azizov shares his vision and perspective with artworks, his writings, conferences, presentations, and his teaching practice as a lecturer. His writings include an academic body of works and articles written for Moscow Art Magazine, where Azizov works as a contributing editor.
The primary objective of the artist’s practice is the exploration and criticizing of influences of globalization by analyzing issues such as migration, cultural industry, the concept of time, and manipulation and perception of new media. One of the essential themes in the artist’s work is what he calls ‘migrasophia,’ which combines the words migration and philosophy.
