Ilkin Huseynov is a Baku-based photographer exploring social issues through his works by documenting life in his community. He has worked as a freelance photojournalist and had his works published in various media outlets including CNN, Associated Press, AFP, Reuters, International, Global journalist, InvisiblePhotographer, Media Paran, and New shopper. Huseynov is the author of two published photo books namely “Muhit” and “We apologize for the temporary inconvenience”.

Artist’s first project “Muhit” (2013) won numerous prizes including London Photography, the Invisible Photographer Asia award, and an award in the PowerHouse Books competition. In 2014, Huseynov self-published this project in the form of a photo book in the independent publishing house Riot Books that he co-founded at that time. The publishing house specialised in limited edition handmade artist’s books.

The project “Remembering the colours” brought the artist grant for this project from Open Society Foundations. Among one the most notable works of the artist are the project “We apologise for the inconvenience" published by Rally in The Streets. In this project, he used to capture the ever-changing urban landscape of Baku and the constant state of “temporarily under construction”.

He is also one of the co-founders (see other: Leyli Gafarova) of Salaam Cinema Baku (named after Mohsen Makhmalbaf’s 1995 movie of the same name), a hub for film lovers where they feature non-commercial, locally made and historical films, held workshops with local and foreigner guests, and create opportunities for other artistic practices.

His publications and works have been featured in both local and international area in places such as Anzenberger Gallery (Vienna, Austria), Recyclart Art Center (Brussels, Belgium), Athens Photo Festival (Greece), Istanbul Phonebook festival (Turkey); Delhi Photo Festival (India) and Grid photo fest (Amsterdam, Holland), Georgia, Italy, Spain, England, the Netherlands, and Turkey. He held photographic workshops in Georgia, France, and Portugal from 2013-2015.
