Born and raised in the industrial city of Sumgait, Nurlan developed a deep appreciation for the diverse career possibilities that life could offer. However, it was in 2012, after completing his bachelor's degree in traditional methods of journalism, that he discovered his true passion for photography.
Nurlan's photography is characterized by its vivid and at times surreal nature, serving as a vehicle for exploring his own existence within the world. While initially focusing on social documentary work, he soon redirected his strong vision inward, using his art to create visual journals that delve into his personal life and relationships. Through this introspective approach, Nurlan seeks to uncover his own inner logic and understanding of the world around him.
In addition to his personal projects, Nurlan also undertook the significant task of documenting Sumgait's transition from the industrial revolution to new manufacturing processes. This project allowed him to observe and capture the changing landscape of his hometown, highlighting the impact of progress on the community and the environment.
In 2014, Nurlan partnered with fellow photographer Ali Alivarzada to establish İşıqla çəkirəm (eng: filming with a light), an innovative online photography education platform. Serving as the sole leader of this initiative, Nurlan and his team utilize various social media platforms to share their knowledge and passion for photography. They also organize and host theoretical and practical workshops conducted by esteemed regional photographers, creating a space for aspiring photographers to learn and grow in their craft.
Through his captivating imagery and his commitment to sharing his expertise, Nurlan Babazada strives to leave a lasting impact on the world of photography.
