The Caucasus region, which includes Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and the Caucasus, has a rich cultural history and artistic heritage. However, in recent years, the region has struggled to provide a platform for emerging artists to showcase their work and grow as professionals. This is where Ta(r)dino 6 Art Platform comes in, offering a unique opportunity for artists to explore their ideas and push boundaries.

Launched in 2019, Ta(r)dino 6 Art Platform is a self-organized initiative based in Baku, Azerbaijan, that provides art professionals from the EECCA region and beyond with a space to engage with contemporary art in an international context. The platform’s programs include exhibitions, commissioned site-specific artworks, artist talks, and workshops led by artists and curators. The initiative aims to foster a thriving art community in the South Caucasus region, supporting emerging artists and promoting discourse on contemporary art with a focus on gender, identity, and equality in the art world.

Founded by a group of researchers and curators such as Asli Samadova, Lesley Grey, Olga Seleznyova and Azad Asifovich, Ta(r)dino 6 is the only initiative in Azerbaijan that is a member of several international and regional professional associations, including the Culture & Creativity Association, Res Artis Worldwide Network of Art Residencies, and an associate member of TEH (Trans Europe Halles), a European network of cultural centers. In September 2019, Ta(r)dino 6 was selected to participate in TEH’s Startup Programme, which supports emerging cultural initiatives, and in September 2020, it was selected to participate in PESA Virtual Academy.

The initiative’s international connections have also led to exciting opportunities for its artists. In May 2020, Ta(r)dino 6 was the first initiative from CIS countries to be selected for the 2020Solidarity campaign by Between Bridges, a foundation launched by German photographer Wolfgang Tillmans. The campaign aims to support cultural initiatives impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

One of the most significant contributions of Ta(r)dino 6 Art Platform to the region’s art community is its Cultural Accelerator program. The program, developed in collaboration with TEH, aims to provide capacity-building opportunities for art and cultural workers in the region. The Cultural Accelerator is a unique opportunity for artists, curators, and cultural workers to develop their skills and build their networks, ultimately contributing to the growth of the region’s cultural scene.

Ta(r)dino 6 Art Platform is a registered non-profit, non-governmental organization in Azerbaijan, which demonstrates its commitment to promoting art and culture without political influence. The initiative’s founders recognized the importance of creating a space for artists and cultural workers to express themselves and explore their ideas without fear of censorship or repression. By creating an independent platform for artists to engage with contemporary art, Ta(r)dino 6 Art Platform is bridging the gap between the Caucasus region and the international art world.

The initiative’s focus on gender, identity, and equality in the art world is also significant. Historically, the art world has been dominated by men and has struggled to create space for marginalized groups. By centering the conversation around these issues, Ta(r)dino 6 Art Platform is creating a more inclusive and diverse art community in the region.

In addition to its international connections, Ta(r)dino 6 Art Platform has also made strides in promoting art within Azerbaijan. The initiative has organized exhibitions and events that showcase local artists and engage with the community. One such event was the “Women’s Voices” exhibition, which featured works by Azerbaijani women artists and aimed to promote gender equality in the art world.
